Hair = "the voice" of your body?

When it comes to hair appearance, most men only consider hairstyle maintenance or minor look adjustments. However, hair can convey much more information about health status than we think. In fact, the state of the hair strands and scalp can offer valuable clues about the numerous conditions the body faces.

In the following lines, we've prepared the main warning signs that hair can communicate to us:

     Thin, soft, and dry hair

There are numerous factors that can lead to excessive drying of the hair, such as using a hair dryer, dye, swimming, or water with a high chlorine content. However, when hair texture undergoes significant changes (especially if it becomes considerably thinner), it may indicate the presence of a body condition, namely hypothyroidism.

Besides changing the hair's appearance, hypothyroidism also manifests through frequent fatigue, weight gain, or sensations of cold. In certain cases, the eyebrows may also be affected, becoming thinner or visibly sparse.

If you are experiencing such "clues," it is highly recommended to consult a specialist doctor and request thyroid level checks.

     Scalp scaling

If you notice that thick crusts start to form on the scalp, which flake off, you might be suffering from psoriasis. Being an autoimmune condition, psoriasis affects a significant number of people worldwide when skin cell production and growth accelerate.

Usually, this condition appears alongside other autoimmune diseases, such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, or Crohn's disease, alerting us to much more severe health conditions (such as psoriatic arthritis).

When it comes to treating psoriasis, several ingredients come to our aid. The most common treatments are based on shampoos containing salicylic acid and tar or on creams and ointments based on aloe vera and zinc.

To alleviate inflammations, hydrocortisone is the most recommended. Additionally, creams containing vitamins A and D and anthrallin are effective in remedying this condition.

     Hair thinning and hair thinning

When discussing hair loss, it's important to know that it is normal for a person to lose about 100 – 150 hairs daily as a result of the natural regeneration process.

However, when the number of hairs lost greatly exceeds such an index, we need to ask ourselves questions. The primary cause behind massive hair loss is stress, but there are also secondary causes, such as the onset of the flu or an infection in the body.

Moreover, another cause of hair thinning or hair thinning may be diabetes and the hormonal changes influenced by the presence of this disease.

Of course, the aforementioned aspects are just some of the causes underlying hair thinning, in which case it is advisable to seek the help of a specialist when facing such a situation.

     Permanent hair loss. Alopecia

Both males and females may face androgenetic alopecia and androgenic alopecia. These are mainly caused by hormonal imbalances, as well as other illnesses or disorders of the body.

Among men, alopecia is often hereditary, becoming permanent when no medicinal treatment is followed. Beginning with thinning hair at the temples and back of the head, hair loss increasingly affects our appearance.

One of the most common causes of alopecia is diabetes. Also, hormonal imbalances, autoimmune diseases, and long-term medications can lead to massive hair loss. As in the previous situations, it is necessary to consult a specialist to accurately identify the cause of hair loss and the most effective form of treatment.

     Brittle and dry hair

We don't need many clues to realize that our hair is becoming increasingly sensitive. For example, when we find short hairs on the pillow, one thing is certain: they have broken, not fallen due to follicle problems.

Generally, hair sensitivity is caused by various chemical treatments on the scalp, such as hair dyes. However, there are also several conditions that cause hair to become brittle and fragile. Among these are hypoparathyroidism and Cushing's syndrome.

Regardless of the cause of hair drying or sensitization, it is essential to stop any chemical treatment on it, as well as beautification techniques involving excessive heating.

     Grey hair

Even though many people perceive grey hair as a sign of poor health, experts believe it is closely linked to each individual's genetic inheritance. Furthermore, stress can be another reason leading to excessive hair whitening.

If there are no family members who have gone grey at a young age, you certainly need to eliminate stressful reasons from your life. In the long term, stress also leads to numerous hormonal disorders, which is certainly not a pleasant thing.

     Alopecia areata

Alopecia areata involves hair loss in certain areas, forming circular patches. It is a response that the body provides to hair follicles, usually based on the onset of diabetes.

The most effective treatment method involves administering cortisone directly to the affected area, by injection.

So, as we can see, hair condition and appearance can serve as a useful guide in understanding the health status of our body. Besides hair care means, such as professional hair products, it is most advisable to consult a specialist doctor whenever we notice changes in our hair.
