Discover how men's hairstyles have evolved.

The evolution of men's hairstyles over time is quite impressive. The way each iconic cut became a genuine trend of its era shows us both the changes that society went through at that time and how much the need for men to style their hair has grown.

Short, long, with unruly curls, with or without gel? Certainly, men's hairstyles have had a difficult journey up until today, with many radical changes from one decade to the next. Although most people think that men began to care about their hair only in recent years, it seems that this concern is deeply rooted in the past.

In fact, if we take a brief trip to the past, representatives of masculinity started to pay particular attention to their hairstyles as early as the 1950s. Up until today, the cuts adopted by these men have varied significantly, depending on celebrity preferences, the specifics of each period, but also many other similar aspects.

Let's see how their hairstyles evolved and what were the most unconventional trends over time:

1950s

Surely, this period was truly revolutionary in terms of how men used to style their hair. If up until then they wanted to achieve a look as presentable as possible, with short and precisely groomed hair, by the late 1950s, rocker-style hairstyles became extremely popular.

Therefore, the hairstyle in the characteristic style of singer Elvis Presley (Pompadour type) was the starting point for other more disheveled hairstyles, based on the excessive use of hair gel.

1960s

The well-known 1960s period: we all remember the Beatles' songs, the hippie style, but also the fact that during those years some companies that are now worth billions of dollars were founded.

On the other hand, hairdressers remember the specific hairstyles of the 1960s. They were based on styles inspired by musicians who made history worldwide. Starting with the hairdos of the 4 Beatles members, through hippie styles to those typical of conservative men in executive positions, this period truly symbolized peace, love, and freedom.

1970s

The 1970s era was exceptionally interesting from every point of view. Additionally, personal care conquered new territories, particularly when considering the fact that the first advertisements for professional hair products for men were broadcasted during those times.

This led to numerous changes in hairstyle trends, varying from the afro style, to disco, and including classic cuts, with fringe and medium-length, straight hair.

Therefore, compared to other eras, the 1970s were devoted to haircut experiments.

1980s

Certainly, this was the decade of long hair. All the rock stars embraced this trend, and indeed even in the hip-hop world, longer hair and curly hairstyles were preferred.

If we were to go back for a second to the 1980s, it would be difficult to even recognize our favorite actors, who had long hair styled in quite an unusual way.

1990s

Who doesn't remember with amusement the 1990s and the famous hairstyles of pop artists, easily adopted by actors, comedians, and... of course, their fans? Well, this period is characterized by short hairstyles, with spiky tips and an excessive amount of gel.

We can't forget the predominant blonde tones among men in the 1990s, shades that, at the moment, only representatives of the female sex use quite often.

2000s

The start of the 2000s was marked by the rebellious rock & roll style mohawk. Additionally, towards the end, singer Justin Bieber inspired many people to adopt medium-length hair, with lifted hair and long bangs.

Although now these trends seem a bit outdated, it seems that at that time (not too far from the present) they were in vogue among men everywhere.

2015 onwards

What have been the most popular men's hairstyles from 2015 to today? Well, which hairdresser hasn't been asked at least once to style a man-bun, gathered at the top of the head? Additionally, another favored cut among men during this period is the one with long bangs, styled either to the side or pushed back.

Certainly, trends in men's cuts will vary significantly in the next 10 years. However, the secret of a refined and always well-groomed gentleman doesn't lie solely in adopting a modern cut.

In fact, it's about choosing a hairstyle that completely characterizes your personal style and highlights all your strengths. From facial structure, eyebrow shape, beard or mustache, to the type of hair, it's essential to consider all these details to always look impeccable.

Therefore, we recommend you choose your barber carefully. This professional plays an extremely important role in completing your personal style with an extraordinary hairstyle each time you step through the barber's salon door (and surely, you do quite often, right?) Additionally, the quality of haircare products they use also matters significantly. The higher their level of professionalism, the more satisfied you will be with your new look.

Which period seems representative for your own preferences? Surely, there was a time when you experimented with one or perhaps more of the hairstyles mentioned above!
